Stroll the Preserve

Sunday, May 13th - 1 – 4 p.m. PHOTO SAFARI
Bring any camera, even your camera phone, and let’s go wild on a photo safari!! All ages welcome. Lead by semi-professional photographer

Sunday, June 10th - 1 – 4 p.m. MOTHER NATURE’S BACKYARD
Please join us at our brand new water-wise demonstration garden. Native sage ice tea will be served.

Would you like to immerse yourself in a relaxing stroll through wilderness? Here is your chance!
and take a walk through the Gardena Willows Wetland Preserve on
the second Sunday of every month 1PM to 4PM
Be sure to wear sturdy walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen and insect repellant and bring your camera!!

The entrance to the Preserve is in Arthur Johnson Park (formerly South Gardena Park),
between Normandie and Vermont Avenues, one block north of Artesia Blvd at
1200 West 170th Street, Gardena, CA.  Please click here for hours of operation.

This is the only gardening series to feature native plants appropriate for the Gardena/South Bay area – and it’s FREE! This program is being offered by the Friends of Gardena Willows Wetland Preserve.

Extraordinary Scents – Native Plant Scents for Potpourri and More- Dr. Connie Vadheim (CSU Dominguez Hills) will discuss California native scented plants as part of the gardening series “Out of the Wilds and Into Your Garden”. Featured will be native plants with scented foliage and their use in items like potpourri, scented candles & soaps. Classes include a walk in Mother Nature’s Backyard (our new native plant garden), where students can see the featured plants.

Willows Restoration Work Days
Remove non-native plants and restore habitat.
Tools, gloves & water will be provided. Wear work clothes, hat, sun screen and sturdy shoes. Come and enjoy a morning in the wilderness!

COMPLETED VOLUNTEER FORM REQUIRED

Please bring your form with you and give it to the volunteer at the sign-in table.  Volunteers under the age of 18 must have parent's signature on form. Thank you!
